NSW North Coast local Pete shares his absolutely stunning “Iron Pig” FJ55.
I've had many Toyota work vehicles over the years including Hiace van's, Hilux's and landcruiser's that all serviced my plumbing business and were consistently tough and reliable. I found the FJ55 for sale on Gumtree about three years ago on the North Coast of NSW. However, it wasn’t an easy buy, as I really had to hassle the guy to actually sell it. He had three of them at the time and was in the process of restoring one.
I eventually picked it up unregistered and drove it three hours home with a permit. It was a nervous drive home as I don't think it had been running for a long time, so I started out on 80km and slowly crept up to 100km with my wife following behind. The truck had the standard roof rust but the rest of it was in a good condition - the panels were very straight with the complete floor in almost as new condition.
It's since had the rust removed and been completely re painted to the original code, the headlining has been replaced but the seats and most of the door cards are original. I’ve installed a disc brake front end and plan on installing power steering in the future. I get a real kick driving it around as so many people give me the thumb's up and are up for a chat about it. I'm planning on keeping it for a long time and would like to see it used on a movie set or perhaps my daughters wedding.
Pete is wearing the LWB Club T-shirt.
