Dan & Ellie, these clean examples of GQ Patrols are getting rarer by the day. How did you get your hands on this one?
It definitely took a bit of finding. Mostly trolling through marketplace posts and searching the same thing everyday to see what’s new. After looking for so long, you kind of know it when you see it and this one was just too hard to pass up - I’m a bit of a sucker for good paint and a clean interior. We picked ours up in Brisbane but it had spent nearly its whole life in North Queensland, and funnily enough, the week after we picked it up, we made the move up north as well. It even still has the sticker from the dealer at Home Hill, which is just a short drive south of Townsville where we are now.
The GQ is currently fairly stock standard. Do you have any future plans for it?
We like how clean it is and definitely don’t want to take away from that too much. However, we do use it for getting out in the bush and touring around so there are a few mods planned for making life a bit easier and to get us to a few more places. Things like carrying a bit more fuel, some sort of storage in the back and we will get the air intake out of the guard. Maybe a winch and front bar if we can decide which one we hate the least, and then we’ll probably need to refresh the 25 year old suspension after all that too.
What’s your favourite places to visit in North Queensland?
We just did a trip up through the Daintree N.P. including spending a bit of time at Cape Tribulation and through to Cooktown. That was top notch - can recommend. But we also just love chasing waterfalls up here on the weekends, there’s some absolute rippers, and especially when it’s hot and the ocean is off limits, some fresh, croc-free water in the rainforest is very welcome. There’s too many to name a favourite, just take your pick and go!
