Thanks for sharing the Patrol with us Isaac, what’s the story behind you getting your hands on a short wheel based Patrol?

I owned a few SWB 4WDs prior to the patrol, the diesel shorty GQ was just the best out of the ranks in my opinion so it was naturally going to happen.

What changes have you made to the Patrol since owning it?

I've had it for just over 3 years now and since buying it, I've removed all of the rust, given it a open door respray, turboed it, 12mm fuel pump, front locker, disk brake rear diff, drawer system with 12v for off grid, bullbar, rear bar, rooftop tent, and lights. I'm sure there's a few things I've forgotten.

How do you find driving a short wheel base out on the tracks and while touring?

It’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, but I enjoy packing light and just have to get creative as to how I can fit so much into such a small space. It has its limitations, but I haven't even gotten close to wanting a LWB just yet. On the tracks, it always has the advantage of being shorter, until it's time to go uphills. I haven't had any big stacks just yet thankfully.

Any advice for anyone out there looking to get into a GQ Patrol?

Just buy anything that's half decent and hasn't been ruined. They're cheap to fix and if you have the means to do it yourself, you can buy something that'll need more work for less most of the time. And buy a diesel if you can afford it.
