Hey Josh, we know you’re all-around car enthusiast, what made you go down the classic 4x4 path?

Absolutely! I’ve always enjoyed a wide variety of styles and eras of cars, but had never considered owning a classic 4x4!

It all began as a child, My Dad was always a Land Rover guy. I grew up in the UK, and I have fond memories of him always having Defenders. I have always loved that classic square shape. He had plans to explore Australia and camp along the way in his LR3 Discovery. Upon getting the 60 series, I had hoped for the possibility of traveling it alongside each other… Unfortunately, he passed away last year and never got the chance to do it. I would love to one day complete that for him.

My love for Land Cruisers began once I moved to Vancouver, Canada in 2018. A great friend of mine (who we initially met via the internet both owning JZS171 Crowns) hit me up on the second day of arriving and getting our bearings. He offered to give us a full guided tour! Showing up in a beautiful JDM HZJ77. That truck was incredible and opened up the Land Cruiser world for me! He then went on to own a few more sick Cruisers that forged my love for these cars!

For personal reasons, ended up making the return back to Australia. My good friend here had this HJ60 that I had admired for a while… He ended up finding a nice round headlight model on a farm that he couldn’t pass up. Planning to keep two 60’s in his fleet! Eventually, after constantly bugging him, he decided to part ways with the car I now own.

I’ve owned a variety of cars over my time, but nothing makes me smile quite like the slow and steady 60 Series!

The 60 looks like its had some tasteful modifications in its time, what can you tell us about the mods?

Nothing too over the top, an older 2” lift. 16-inch Work Crags and some 33” BF Goodrich tyres. The decals were done prior to my ownership. The previous owner did these himself by hand. I really love this personal touch as they aren’t just an “off the shelf” reproduced set. Recently added a Yakima roof rack and platform to hold a 23Zero Rooftop Tent.

I’d like to change up the steering wheel eventually and install a few more speakers. Other than that these trucks don’t need much to look good!

I’m really happy with the current setup, and learning as I go with camping gear etc.

Do you have any advice for anyone in the market for a 60 Series?

My only advice is if you’ve been thinking about it for a while… Go for it! These cars are slow, clunky and full of charm. A lot of people turn away easily because they may have a little rust, or some leaks here and there. They’re old cars now. So much history and character are still there and these things can be fixed. They’ll get you everywhere you need to go and the smile these cars put on your face when you drive them is irreplaceable!
